TUCP Funds Local Health Districts to Address Tobacco Use Control

TUCP is providing 18 local Health Districts with funding to implement tobacco use control changes in their local communities. The health districts are strengthening and developing local coalitions in order to implement, promote or support tobacco use control in communities. They are also working to implement 100% smoke-free grounds at their local health district offices and are focusing their community work on the following objectives:

  • Adopt and promote smoke free and tobacco free places;
  • Monitor tobacco use control environmental and system change strategies;
  • Restrict initiation and access to tobacco;
  • Help eliminate tobacco-related disparities in specific population groups;
  • Promote cessation services;
  • Conduct local tobacco control assessments;
  • Create and/or enhance local health coalition to address tobacco use control;
  • Promote the Virginia Quitline and Fax Referral program;
  • Provide and/or attend local forums, community meetings, coalitions and trainings as identified below.
