In 2010, there were 3,750 deaths that resulted from intentional and unintentional injuries in the Commonwealth. Injuries are the leading cause of death for Virginians between the ages of 1 and 44. Injuries in Virginia also result in enormous health care costs. In 2010, there were 47,517 injury-related hospital discharges. Virginians spent a total of 240,553 days in a hospital and over 1.5 billion dollars were billed by hospitals because of injury.
VOIRS: Virginia Online Injury Reporting System. This online injury reporting system provides quick and easy access to basic injury data. This system will allow you to create customized injury data reports on various mechanisms (causes) and intents of injury by geographic and demographic variables.
Currently the VOIRS databases contain injury related hospitalizations and deaths for Virginia residents, from 1999 to 2010.
