You should have your blood pressure checked every 1-2 years if you are a healthy adult with normal blood pressure (top number is less than 120 and bottom number is less than 80 starting at age 20).
If the top number is 120-139 or if the bottom number is 80-89, have it checked at least every year or as often your health care provider recommends.
If the top number is 140 or more or the bottom number is 90 or more or if you have other risk factors for heart disease (calculate your risk below) or symptoms of disease caused by high blood pressure have your blood pressure checked more often. Talk with your health care provider.
Watch for blood pressure screenings in your area. Ask your health care provider if you can stop in to have your blood pressure checked. Also, check your local pharmacist at local grocery stores and pharmacies.
