HOW WILL YOU KNOW?

With all of the information parents receive before they leave the hospital, it's important not to let your baby's hearing slip through the cracks. The timeliness of your child's testing and diagnosis can make a difference in how they will perform in school.

For babies (and parents) here are some important milestones:

• Be sure your baby has a hearing screening test before leaving the hospital.
  (If your baby is not born in a hospital, be sure that he/she has a hearing screening before 1 month of age.)
• If your baby fails the first hearing screening, immediately schedule a hearing evaluation for diagnosis with an audiologist before your he/she is 3 months of age.
• If your baby is diagnosed with a hearing loss begin early intervention services before 6 months of age.
