How is the Virginia Bleeding Disorders Program involved with the Genetics Advisory Committee?
In the fall of 2012, the Genetics Advisory Committee was restructured to broaden its focus and representation. At that time, representatives from the Virginia Bleeding Disorders Program, the comprehensive bleeding disorders programs and the Virginia Hemophilia Foundation were added to Committee.
The mission of the Genetics Advisory Committee (GAC) is to advise the State Health Commissioner within the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) on issues related to the availability of and access to clinical services for the screening, diagnosis and management of birth defects, heritable disorders and inborn errors of metabolism. The GAC also advises the VDH on issues related to the prevention of birth defects and promoting awareness and education about birth defects, heritable disorders and errors of metabolism.
