Our Core Functions

1. To regularly collect, analyze, and share information about the health conditions, risks, and resources in Virginia regarding women, children, youth, and their families.
2. To use information gathered from assessment activities to assist policymakers in developing local and state public health policies regarding women, children, youth, and their families.
3. To make sure that needed, quality public health services are available for women, children, youth, and their families.

Our Essential Services

1. Assess and monitor the health status of women, children, youth, and their families to identify and address problems.
2. Diagnose and investigate health problems and health hazards affecting women, children, youth, and their families.
3. Inform, educate, and empower people and families about health issues related to women, children, youth, and their families.
4. Mobilize community partnerships among policymakers, health care providers, families, the general public, and others to identify and solve health problems of women, children, youth and their families.
5. Provide leadership for priority-setting, planning, and policy development to support community efforts to assure the health of women, children, youth, and their families.
6. Promote and enforce applicable legal requirements (e.g., Code of Virginia and Regulations) that protect the health and safety of women, children, youth, and their families.
7. Link women, children, youth, and their families to health and other community and family services, and assure access to comprehensive, quality systems of care.
8. Assure the capacity and competency of the public health and personal health work force to effectively address the health needs of women, children, youth, and their families.
9. Evaluate effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of personal health and population-based health services for women, children, youth, and their families.
10. Support research and demonstrations to gain new insights and innovative solutions to health problems related to women, children, youth, and their families.

Our Organization
The Division of Child and Family Health is one of five divisions within the Office of Family Health Services. Within our division are three major units:Child Health, Dental Health, and Reproductive Health.
