MINORITY HEALTH CONSORTIUM & CRATER HEALTH DISTRICT TO HOST REGIONAL ERASING THE STIGMA FORUM FOR MSM ON SATURDAY, APRIL 20, 2013
(Petersburg, Va.)-The Minority Health Consortium in partnership with the Crater Health District will host a forum for MSM (men who have sex with men) on Saturday, April 20 from 12 noon – 8 p.m. at the Petersburg Union Train Station, 103 River Street, Petersburg, Virginia 23803. The purpose of this event is to educate MSM in the Crater Health District about: HIV stigma, rates of HIV among MSM, protecting themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), communicating with sexual partners about safer sex practices, HIV testing and treatment, and available resources.
This event is free and will feature speakers, poetry, spoken word, health education trivia, prizes, food, and entertainment. Free HIV/ STI testing and free condoms will also be available.
The Minority Health Consortium (MHC) founded in 1987, is a non-profit organization based out of Richmond, Virginia whose mission is to, “with the involvement of the community, public and professional organizations and interested citizens, raise the general level of health of minority persons in the Richmond metropolitan area, through participatory strategies, which will enhance healthier lifestyles.” The MHC serves Crater Health District by promoting prevention of HIV/AIDS and other STIs. The MHC conducts street and community outreach, group interventions, individual interventions, and community interventions. MHC serves a diverse range of clients including; homeless, MSM, intravenous drug users, and persons living with AIDS.
