Health Commissioner Dr. Karen Remley joined Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius at a school-based, seasonal flu vaccination clinic in Alexandria on Friday, Sept. 11. In addition to being a mass vaccination exercise for the Alexandria Health Department staff, the clinic served as the backdrop for Secretary Sebelius to shine a spotlight on the hard-working volunteers of the Medical Reserve Corps on this first National Day of Remembrance and Service.
Both Commissioner Remley and Secretary Sebelius joined the hundreds in line, getting their seasonal flu shots early and on camera. Even a heavy rain at the start of the two-hour clinic didn’t dampen the turnout. When the clinic ended, an impressive 585 individuals had been vaccinated. Congratulations to all the VDH employees and MRC volunteers from around the state, the Alexandria public school system folks and the T.C. Williams High School staff who helped pull this clinic together in record time – and made it such a success.
