About RVMRC

The Roanoke Alleghany Medical Reserve Corps (RVMRC) is a group of medically and non-medically trained volunteers. Under the direction of the Roanoke/Alleghany Health Department, we respond to emergencies, disasters and other events within the health district.

We serve the counties of Botetourt, Craig, Roanoke and Alleghany, as well as the cities of Covington, Roanoke and Salem. Dabney Lancaster Community College, Jefferson College of Health Sciences, Virginia Western Community College, Roanoke College and Hollins University are all within the area we serve.

In addition, we're also home to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital, Lewisgale Regional Medical Center, Lewisgale Alleghany Regional Hospital, Catawba Hospital and Salem VA Medical Center.

The RVMRC is an integral component of the Virginia Hospital Healthcare Association's Near Southwest Preparedness Alliance (a regional task force of 16 hospitals, health districts, and local/regional emergency managers)to help with planning/management of surge capacity in a local disaster, including assisting mass prophylaxis/vaccination clinics or other major public health needs.

The unit partners with the Red Cross, VOAD, OEM, Citizen Corps, and other resources to develop a coordinated response to a disaster.
