The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is the lead agency guiding the development of ConnectVirginia, the statewide health information exchange. ConnectVirginia provides services that allow health care providers to send and receive health information electronically.
Going forward, ConnectVirginia will be the only transport mechanism by which VDH will accept public health reportable data. By early 2014, VDH will be on-boarded to ConnectVirginia EXCHANGE and the HIE will be the most convenient way to transmit immunization data, syndromic surveillance data, cancer case data, and reportable laboratory results to VDH.
Until this is available, providers wishing to begin new electronic submissions should contact MeaningfulUse@vdh.virginia.gov to discuss interim transport options. Messages that are being sent through previously developed interfaces will be required to transition shortly after the connection between the HIE and VDH has been established.
