Birth Control Pills Recall - Pildoras Anticonceptivas Retiradas

New information released January 31, 2012, by Phizer Inc. announced that patients who have taken the affected lot numbers listed below may be at risk of unintended pregnancy and should use a non-hormonal contraceptive method. You or your patients can call, 1-877-509-3935, with questions. Additional information, including a list of the affected lot numbers and the manufacturer’s press release, can be found at the FDA MedWatch webpage. The manufacturer of Lo-Ovral birth control pills has issued a recall for certain packs of Lo-Ovral distributed between January and December 2011 (see chart below for list of affected pills). The recall is the result of a packaging error. The manufacturer states that “taking this product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences.” If you took pills affected by the recall and have concerns or questions please contact the manufacturer, Akrimax, at their customer service line, 877-509-3935. If you received packs of Lo-Ovral from the Portsmouth Health Department which contain the lot numbers listed below you can return them and exchange them for new pills at no charge. This recall does not impact any other birth control methods or supplies that you have received from the Portsmouth Health Department.
