The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) Virginia Lead Safe Homes Program provides assistance for housing within designated localities that were built prior to 1978 and are occupied by low-income families with a child six years old or younger.

The Federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program is sponsored by the U.S. Treasury Department and administered by VHDA in Virginia. The LIHTC program is authorized under Section 42 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, and it encourages the development of affordable rental housing by providing owners with a federal income tax credit.

The Virginia Community Development Block Grant (VCDBG) is a federally-funded grant administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) since 1982.
