The Central Virginia Health District has increased their coverage rate for the 4313314 series by 7% over the last year. Pat Read, the IAP, has been instrumental in making changes to improve the district’s immunization rates. She has started an immunization coalition, inviting other health care workers and members of the community such as pastors and head start workers to come together to brain storm, seeking to reach those in the area who are not immunizing their children and exploring what can be done to keep their children protected against vaccine preventable disease. Recognizing the importance of offering all of the vaccines recommended for adolescents, the district no longer supports school-based clinics which only provide Tdap to meet the requirement for school.
