Quality assurance site visits ensure that VVFC-enrolled providers are complying with federal regulations and maintaining good immunization practices. Four types of site visits are most commonly conducted by the VVFC Regional Consultants:
- New Enrollment Visits: These visits are for newly enrolled providers in the VVFC program and offer basic VVFC program education. These site visits normally last under an hour.
- VFC Only Quality Assurance Visit: These are the most common type of visit that the VVFC Consultants perform. Conducted yearly, these visits consist of a chart review, examination of vaccine storage and handling, and a quality assurance evaluation.
- VFC/AFIX Quality Assurance Visit: These visits combine a Quality Assurance Visit with performing a mini Clinic/Provider Assessment Software Application (CASA). CASA is assessment software, developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is used to provide an analysis of the practice's vaccination rates.
- Educational Visit: While all site visits are educational, these visits are completed for groups who wish to learn more about immunizations in general or the VVFC program in general.
A comprehensive resource for providers on vaccine storage and handling recommendations is also available at http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/storage/toolkit/storage-handling-toolkit.pdf. Additional resources of practical vaccine related information can also be found at http://www.immunize.org/clinic/. For your convenience several of these forms are available in the VVFC Toolkit. Both toolkits can be accessed from the "Quick Links" box at right.
