Health Care Provider Resources

On April 27, 2009, the State Health Commissioner declared a Public Health Emergency in the Commonwealth to assist with the coordination and information dissemination associated with the swine flu outbreak. VDH is asking all health care providers across the state to have a high index of suspicion regarding patients with influenza like illness (ILI). ILI is defined as fever (temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater) and a cough or sore throat in the absence of a known cause other than flu.
