Internal Audit

The mission of the Internal Audit Department is to assist all levels of management at the Department of Health in the efficient and effective discharge of their responsibilities of equipping Virginians to achieve and maintain optimum personal and community health; by emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention and environmental protection.

Internal audit functions to assist the Board of Health, the Commissioner of Health, and all levels of Agency management to achieve reliable and informed management decisions.


Director of Interal Audit

Richard

Richard joined the Virginia Health Department in July 1995 as the VDH Internal Audit Director. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from California State University, Fullerton, California. Richard is a Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Financial Services Auditor.

The CIA certification is issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors and the CFSA is issued by the Financial Services Auditors Association. Richard worked in the field of bank internal audit for 21 years prior to joining the Health Department. He is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, the Financial Services Auditors Association and the VDH Information Security Steering Committee.
