Rescue Camp for Youth is a fast paced and fun-filled session for children ages 8-12. Training covers CPR, water rescue, basic first aid, personal safety, as well as ropes and repelling. Rescue Camp is sponsored by the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads (VAVRS).

This presentation will expose the street wise BLS and ALS provider to the information needed to assist in the event of a Canine injury or illness of a Fire, Police or Federal canine. We will also cover routine problems and how to prevent them.You will be able to practice CPR on the Canine “CASPER” and perform procedures on an atual working K-9. You will see how to adapt the Human EMS cache into an Emergency Canine EMS Cache. You will be exposed to new “Toys” used for Fire, Police and Military canines. These dogs serve as we do and come in our time of need and we as EMS Providers should be able to help in their time of need...A certificate of training will be given to all attendees.

Hands OnPRE-028 Field Operations for OMDs

Target Audience: MD, DO

This course will provide OMDs with the opportunity to gain some "hands on" experience in fire and rescue field operations that their providers frequently participate in. Emphasis will be given to the OMD’s role in planning and participating in such operations. This course will count toward requirements for EMS physician endorsement and CME credit will be offered. Participants will need a set of turnout gear that includes coat, pants, boots, helmet, gloves and eye protection. Much of the course will be held outdoors, so dress accordingly for weather conditions.

OPE-4007 Unusual Chemical Hazards for the EMS Professional

Describe incidents and indicators of accidental and intentional chemical events. We'll provide an overview of chemical agents; commercial/consumer-level hazmat, industrial (TIA), and chemical weapons. Case studies will be used to highlight the unusual use of chemicals for chemical assisted suicide, consumer level hazardous materials events, homemade chemical bombs and drug production. Details will be provided for specific chemicals as they relate to scene safety, provider safety, decontamination, triage, and transportation. Injury is the number 1 killer of children in the U.S. In 2010, injury accounted for 69.5 percent of all deaths in children younger than 18 years. The financial burden to the society of children who survive childhood injury with disability continues to be enormous. The entire process of managing childhood injury is complex and varies by region. Only the comprehensive cooperation of a broadly diverse group of people will have a significant effect on improving the care and outcome of injured children. The street drug “Bath Salts” is the newest and latest addition to a growing list of items that young people can obtain to get high.
