New River Health District

The New River Health District is comprised of the counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski and the City of Radford, Virginia. District Office headquarters are located in the Montgomery County Health Department in Christiansburg.

News & Events

If you are 18 years of age or older living in Giles County, VA or Monroe County, WV, please take 15 minutes to complete a survey regarding your community health needs. You can reach the survey at or by calling 1-888-964-6620. Participants who complete the survey get a chance to win one of five $10 Walmart gift cards!


If you are over 18 years of age and have eaten in at least one restaurant in Montgomery County within the last 12 months, we are inviting you to participate in a brief survey about food safety. It takes less than 10 minutes to complete and your input is invaluable as we assess the knowledge and education needs of the communities we serve. Check out the survey here:


We are partnering with the Virginia Family Nutrition Program and the Virginia Cooperative Extension - Montgomery County to create a community garden in Christiansburg. Check out these great photos of the project in progress!


Would you like to help protect Virginia's health by volunteering through your local Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)? Membership includes both medically-trained and non-medically trained volunteers so please find out more by visiting the NRVMRC website.


Do you rely on a well, spring, or cistern? Do you ever wonder about the quality of your water? Do you want to learn more about taking care of your water system and keeping your water safe? If you answered yes to these questions, the Virginia Household Water Quality Program is sponsoring local drinking water clinics to help you learn more about caring for your private water system.
