About Us

The Eastern Shore Health District encompasses the Accomack County and Northampton County Health Departments.   Together, these departments provide a vast array of public health services for Accomack and Northampton Counties.  These two rural counties comprise the Eastern Shore of Virginia, the 70-mile long Virginia portion of the Delmarva Peninsula, which is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay.  The area’s population is approximately 45,000 residents; an influx of summer tourists and migrant farm workers adds to the mix of clientele served by the district.
The District employees a staff of approximately 60 dedicated health care professionals and support personnel to carry out its duties and responsibilities.

Our mission is to prevent illness and disease, protect the environment, and promote optimal health and emergency preparedness for everyone on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.  We are people of the community, for the community.
