What
In collaboration with the Virginia Department of Health’s Division of Surveillance and Investigation (DSI), we provide surveillance, investigation, and follow up of communicable diseases that are reportable by medical providers and laboratories.
This includes:
• Community outreach, education, and in-services trainings
• Sexually transmitted disease (STD) treatment, counseling and referral
• Childhood and adult immunizations, counseling and referral
• Initial health assessment of all newly arriving immigrants with refugee or asylum status through the Virginia Newcomers Health Program. (VNHP)

The immunization program in Central Virginia provides the following services to the community:

Immunizations are offered to infants, children, adolescents and adults. No appointment is needed for routine immunizations. The health department also offers immunizations for immigrants and travelers.
Immunization Hours
No appointment is needed for routine immunizations. Immigration patients and travelers seeking immunizations are REQUIRED to have an appointment. Please note immigration services and travel health immunizations are ONLY offered at the Lynchburg Health Department. Please contact each health department for immunization hours.
Fees
Please contact the health department business office regarding charges for immunizations. The health departments in Central Virginia participate with some major insurance carriers. If charges are applicable they are required to be paid at time of services. Most payment options are accepted.

The Infant & Toddler Connection provides supports and services for children birth to three years of age and their families so that families can help their child learn during everyday activities and routines. For most children and families services are provided in the home but can also be provided at other places in the community such as child care centers. WIC stands for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.
The goal of the program is to improve the health of pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children (under 5 years) through better nutrition and access to health care. The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and operated in Virginia through the Virginia Department of Health.
