The mission of the Internal Audit Department is to assist all levels of management at the Department of Health in the efficient and effective discharge of their responsibilities of equipping Virginians to achieve and maintain optimum personal and community health; by emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention and environmental protection.
This is accomplished by furnishing objective analysis and appraisals, observations, and recommendations relating to improving internal control, compliance with management's established policies and procedures, and the development of new systems and processes.
